Group Show at Brunswick Street Gallery 7th July - 19th July

For some time now I have been distancing my creative self from my illustration work and moving toward (or rather back to) my creative intentions from 17 years ago. I started out as a printmaker, exploring space, shape and texture among other elements and have been embarking on a journey back to these aesthetics, though, without having yet made a single print.

I am currently working on a series of acrylic on plywood paintings that explore an abstracted and at times non-objective, aesthetic that simultaneously brings me back to where I began my fine art career and reveals new creative explorations.

I am even more excited to announce that I will be participating in my first 'real' group show in a long time. Brunswick Street Gallery will be holding their 5th Contemporary Localised Survey group exhibition and I will be lucky enough to be showing my current body of work.

Here's a sneak peak at what I am working on.

What if the Whole World was made of Wool?

Well, here it is, the next of instalment in the Delilah series. Delilah has many daydreams that take her on micro adventures into her imagination. This time she wonders what it would be like if her whole world was made of wool?

Tending to the Garden

Apparently we humans have between 50,000 and 70,000 thoughts a day, and admittedly, while not all of my thoughts are about creating and making - a good deal of them are.

For a long time now I have been thinking, pondering, looking and listening and not writing or drawing these thoughts and subsequent ideas down. Until recently. Quite suddenly I have been on a mini frenzy of sorts. It's almost as if the storm in my mind has finally broken, bucketing down ideas that have burst the banks of my skull.

Let me share with you the first of what marks a minor shift in stylistic approaches to my illustration. I'm excited. I feel as though I am reaching back to my printmaking background and somehow intertwining my past aesthetics of abstraction with my present aesthetics of figurative children's illustration. Feeling more 'me' than ever before I can't wait to unravel these ideas further. I hope this warms the cockles of your heart as much as it does mine.

The Countdown to Finders Keepers Melbourne!

Well, it's been a bit quiet on the blog front of late, and this is why.... FINDERS KEEPERS!!

What is Finders Keepers? It's a design market that features the work of independant makers from all across Australia. It was founded in 2008 and has grown to be Australia's leading design market. They hold events bi-annually in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne (where I'll be October 2 - 4 this year!)

Needless to say I've been crazy busy preparing stock, and have had to put dear old Delilah on the back burner to simmer away until my world returns to normal again. Until then, I will share with you some behind the scenes pics of the crazy (but fun!) preparations.

Enjoy!

Paper Boats

What if she couldn't stop crying and her tears filled the room? Delilah's mind just wouldn't slow down. Thoughts fluttered around like dragonflies in a whirl on a summers eve.

Meet Delilah

I've been working away on a new project and I thought I'd share some of the early stages of the process. I thought it would be a interesting back story for anyone following along, and a nice way for me to journal my creative endeavours.

Meet Delilah. She is emerging from my paper in leaps and bounds. Delilah has many adventures in store and I can't wait to draw them all for you.
